Southern Girls Take Initiative

Southern Girls Take Initiative (SGTI) is a program designed to encourage more girls and women to play chess.

SGTI was designed first as a Girls Only Summer camp, meeting weekly. Each lesson included a guest speaker, then a chess lesson taught by Mrs Prescott, and of course playtime! The focus is on creating a generation of assertive and confident young ladies.

If you are interested in being a guest speaker, email Jessica. You can share either what you do or are passionate about and then we will discuss the qualities or skills that relate to chess. It'll be a mix between career day and character-trait awareness. You are welcome to stay and learn and play, too!

Prices vary based on the number of participants but will range between $10-$20

Need-based and merit-based scholarships apply.

Tournaments

OTCB is a USCF affiliate and can run both rated and non-rated events.

Last spring we held the first Southern Girls Regional Championships, including all states from the SE. Two winners split the $500 grand prize of this all-girls event.
