Southern Girls Take Initiative 2012-2018

Southern Girls Take Initiative (SGTI) is a program designed to encourage more girls and women to play chess.
SGTI was designed first as a Girls Only Summer camp, meeting weekly. Each lesson included a guest speaker, then a chess lesson taught by Ms. Martin, and of course playtime! The focus is on creating a generation of assertive and confident young ladies.
If you are interested in being a guest speaker, email Jessica. You can share either what you do or are passionate about and then we will discuss the qualities or skills that relate to chess.
Need-based and merit-based scholarships apply.
Tournaments

OTCB is a USCF affiliate and can run both rated and non-rated events.
​Tournaments have ended for the 2025-2026 school year.
